Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How fit do I need to be?

You don’t need to be fit to start training Jiu-Jitsu. In fact, Jiu-Jitsu is a great way to get fit. At Absoluto Kuwait everybody is welcome on the mats regardless of their level of fitness. We focus on technique and this is something absolutely anyone can do.

Q2. Am I too old to start training Jiu-Jitsu?

No such thing. It’s never too late to start training Jiu-Jitsu.

Our Beginners programs are designed to cater to everyone. At Absoluto Kuwait we encourage students to train to their own limits and push themselves as hard as they want.

Q3. What is the right age for kids to start Jiu-Jitsu?

Every child is different. However, we believe that around 5 years is a good age to start a martial art such as Jiu-Jitsu. Our kids program caters for 5-13 year olds and focuses on making self-defense and physical education fun. We use conditioning and skill-oriented games to engage and challenge kids. The benefits go way beyond the physical. It will also teach your kids valuable life skills such as courtesy, confidence, focus, discipline, team work, mental strength, and self-control.

Q4. Do I need previous martial arts experience?

Not at all. If you have already trained in a different martial art that’s great but you do not need any previous martial arts experience. Regardless of whether you’re just starting out on your Jiu-Jitsu journey, or an old timer, you will always be welcome at Absoluto Kuwait.

Q5. Which class should I try first?

If you are new to Jiu-Jitsu, you must first attend the Beginners self-defense programs (free of charge). The instructor will take you through the history and customs of Jiu-Jitsu, as well as explain you the goals of our programs and show you some self-defense techniques. The goal of the free trial class is for the student to get to know our academy, instructors, programs and overall environment, and also is an assessment from the instructor. The instructor will make further recommendations at the end of the session.

If you already have experience in Jiu-Jitsu, contact the Front Desk and one of our instructors will guide you towards the programs that fits  your level of experience and goals.

Q6.  What should I wear for my first class?

For your free trial class, you should wear some comfortable clothes and some flip flops so your feet are covered between the changing rooms and the mats.

Q7.  What will I learn in my first class?

In your first class you will be taught some basic Jiu-Jitsu movements, and then you will practice these moves with a partner. The instructors will keep a close eye on you as well as ensuring that you are partnered with someone who is experienced. We are proud of our friendly atmosphere at the academy and make sure that everyone feels welcome.

Q8.  I have to leave early/coming late?

We will do our best to accommodate late arrivals, however if it is your first class, it is important that you arrive 15-20 minutes before the class. This allows us to show you around the academy and introduce you to the instructor.

Q9.   Where can I purchase the uniform?

All uniform items can be purchased onsite at the Front Desk.

For the GI programs, students are required to wear the academy GI uniform: rash guard, GI jacket and pants, and belt.

For the NO GI programs, students are required to wear the academy NO GI uniform: rash guard, grappling shorts, and leggings.

For the Kickboxing program, students are required to have their own hand-wraps, 12-16oz gloves, shin pads, head protection.
